Immersive Visualization Bootcamps
The Advanced Visualization Lab at Indiana University, in cooperation with the
Center for Advanced Energy Studies at the Idaho National Laboratory, the
University of Wyoming and Kitware Inc. are pleased to announce a series of
training camps on the use of immersive visualization software for virtual
reality displays, including CAVE-style systems as well as single-screen tracked
displays.
For 2013, these "bootcamps" are being held in Indianapolis Indiana (March),
and Laramie Wyoming (June). We are providing multiple offerings to
enable a more intimate and hands-on experience. The east and west locations
have been selected to allow participants to choose a destination that
better suits their travel needs. The content of the offerings will be
equivalent.
The Indianapolis bootcamp held in March is now in the books, and
was a great success. Registration for the Laramie Wyoming event
has just opened, and we anticipate another good crowd.
The goal of these bootcamps is to empower immersive (aka virtual reality)
visualization facilities with software tools that will enable them to
visualize data in a variety of formats within their advanced displays.
The software presented will primarily be open-source, allowing participants
to freely incorporate packages into their workflow suite.

Planned topics include:
- General Purpose Vis (Immersive ParaView)
- Point-cloud data (LidarViewer)
- Volume Rendering (Toirt Samhlaigh)
- Molecular viewer (VMD)
- Matlab VR interface
- Archaeology Vis with CalVR
- System configuration
- Low-cost Immersive Systems
- Human Computer Interface considerations
- Workflow examples at INL
- Interaction capabilities
- Supported input devices
Registration is $200 per person. Many meals will be provided to
encourage discussion and collaborations. Space is limited to 25
participants per event in order to maximize hands-on time. Bootcamps
will begin at 1:00pm on the first day, will last two working day
equivalents, ending at noon on the third day.
Registration for the Laramie bootcamp is now open.
Registration is handled on our
online registration page.

The June bootcamp will be held in the new University of Wyoming
School of Energy Resources (SER)
facility at 1020 E. Lewis St. in Laramie.
As a consequence of the small size of the bootcamp, there is no hotel
reservation block. However, we do recommend the
Hilton Garden Inn,
which is a short, pleasant, walk.
Further logistic information will be provided to registered participants as
we approach the bootcamp.
